In the "Person of Interest" video study, former cold-case detective J. Warner Wallace will share the investigative approach that led him to the truth about Jesus. Those interested in joining the study should purchase the Person of Interest book and investigator's guide. If you have questions about the study or would like additional information, please contact Jared Bartels (816-824-7754).

Chiefs Fans-Sunday we will be hosting the first Ascension Chiefs Game Day Watch Party of the season. The next watch party is October 20. Gametime is 3:25, so the party starts at 3:00 PM.
The Chiefs Game Day Watch Party will be held in the NEWLY RENOVATED former Youth Room in the Ascension basement, past the Sunday School rooms. Please use the entrance at the far north end of the parking lot at the rear of the church.
The patio has been newly pressure washed, the room has been/is being refurbished with fresh paint, a redone pool table, and new furniture: at least enough to get the season started. This is an ongoing project so please excuse the mess. See you there.
Time for Princesses and Pirates! In partnership with Girl Scout Troop 40, Ascension is hosting Trunk-or-Treat again this year on Halloween, Thursday, October 31, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. This is a safe, family friendly environment for kids of all ages. We are looking for candy donations and hosts to decorate car trunks and pass out candy. There are up to 45 spaces in the parking lot. E-mail outreach@ascensionlutherankc.org by October 20 if you would like to dress up your trunk. Look for the leaky cauldron in the Narthex to drop off candy.
Walker Program
Ascension’s Walker Program is live! The Family Life Center is open for walking from 7 am to 10 am weekdays. Walking is a great way to start your day and can improve both your physical and mental health! Please join us.
Our Walker Program provides our members and our community with a forum for physical exercise through walking and fellowship. Ascension members serve as hosts for the program; which is open weekdays from 7 am to 10 am (not including holidays or when there is inclement weather). If you are interested in serving as a host, a host substitute, and/or would like more information please feel free to reach out to Charles Green or Pam Rinas.

STEWARDSHIP-
Did you know that year end planning can be a good stewardship moment for Ascension? Some of our members already participate in this sort of personal tax planning which can be a direct benefit to your church. ( a Qualified 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) organization.) Your QCD (Qualified Charitable Distribution) will count toward the current year RMD (Required Minimum Distribution). In order to qualify for 2024, the contribution must be made by 12/31/24, but it does not end there. If you make the required contribution in 2025, it will qualify for 2025 and you can continue every year. Be sure to ask your Tax Advisor about a QCD. A big thank you to those of you who already participate
Best Choice Labels
Please continue saving Best Choice Labels. Labels can be given to Phyllis Kohl or put in the box above the coat race.
Caring for Kids Collection
Emily Ullrich, Laurie Ullrich’s daughter, is a special education teacher at Norfleet Elementary. Ascension partners with Norfleet through Caring for Kids. Emily works with special needs students in grades 2-3 in a self-contained setting. This is the first year her students will be able to eat lunch in the cafeteria, but not until 1:20. Because of the late lunch time, Emily would like to provide snacks for her class. At the present time, this would come out of Emily's pocket. The parents of most students in her class would not be able to help provide snacks. There are three self-contained classrooms with 12-15 students each that would need assistance. One of the goals of Caring for Kids partnerships is to help provide schools with assistance when parents aren't able to. Emily could use boxes of cereal, bags of pretzels or other snack items that could be easily put in cups and passed out to students. If you would like to help with this project, please but items in the box labeled "Emily's Snacks". A list of needed items will be on the table in the narthex.
Many, many thanks to our dear congregation for blessing us last Sunday with your cards, gifts, and recognition on the church workers’ Appreciation Day. Your love, care and kindness have always been appreciated. God be with you and bless you. Pastor Dunn, Walt Little, Becky Reynolds, Pastor Stolle, Tamy Dotson, Eric & Sarah Eckhoff, Linda Dunn, Martha Eckhoff, Karen Engebretson, Julie Lane, & Mark Lippe.
Stewardship Dollars at work!
We help fund future church workers as part of our stewardship budget. Catch up on the work these funds support!
This year we’ve supported Rob Choate who recently served as a vicar in Florida. Rob sent us a wonderful letter of appreciation. Take a moment to read the letter, posted on the bulletin board by the door leading to the parking lot.
On another board in the narthex, you’ll find articles about two other church workers we are helping:
A missionary to Japan, Pastor Jastram. Read the latest article recently published about his work in Japan as the only LCMS missionary.
Rev. Brad Zerkel’s ministry in Hawaii. Brad is a son of our congregation, called to the ministry while a member here. He’s revitalizing a small church in Hawaii. View the photos and read his latest update.
God is working through these men and your offerings provide assistance. Thank you for giving!
Adopt a Highway -
Thank You A sincere thank you to the people who served by picking up trash one last time on Ascension’s stretch of I-70 Saturday, October 5th. (MoDOT has discontinued its Adopt a Highway program as we knew it.) Thanks to Sandra Bachmann, Ed Doering, Kathy Jenkins, Alan and Julie Reid, Hans Rinas, Doug and Pam Rinas. These 8 volunteers picked up 20 bags of trash and some larger sundry items! This brings Ascension's grand total to 1905 bags of trash picked up on I-70 since Don Bartels started Ascension's Adopt a Highway efforts on November 9, 2002. Ascension will continue serving our community by adopting a local street. We will keep you posted. For more information contact Doug Rinas.
Mitten Tree/Winter Necessities
The Dorcas Circle mitten tree and winter necessities box will be in the narthex through November 10. Collected items will be given to LUMA to use with the urban food pantries. Needed items are hats, gloves, scarves, socks, long underwear, and new coats for men, women and children, and new blankets.
FYI Dorcas Circle will meet on the fourth Monday through May. We will not meet in December and January.
Help Wanted
The Board of Fellowship is responsible for planning fellowship opportunities for the congregation. If you would like to be on this board, please contact Brenda Frolin.
Supporting Kansas City Veterans -
The Board of Human Care is collecting donations of socks, chap stick, puzzle books and men's drawstring sweatpants to support the VA Medical Center. The drive will run through Sunday, November 10. Please see the table in the Narthex for more information.
